The Siruseri IT park is on the highway of Old Mahabalipuram and there
are lot of IT companies situated inside including a Biotech Park for
Women Entrepreneurs. The maximum distance of all companies inside is not
beyond 5 kilometers. There are many people who depend on public
transport to travel this distance to reach their respective offices.
There is a government bus in the morning at 9 Am and evening at 5 PM. If
people leave this bus they are left with no option but to depend on
autorickshaws. The autos charge Rs 10 per person per kilometre on
sharing basis and an auto carries not less than 5 persons at a time
collecting 10, 20 and 30 depending on the distance. This is too much for
a short distance that too on sharing basis. Most of the autos do not
have permits and there is every element of risk involved for the general
public as there is a possibility of anti social elements also operating
under the disguise of auto drivers. Since there is no regulation, no
police control in this area the general public is at the mercy of erring
drivers at odd times.
The government should intervene and give instructions to the Transport
department to introduce a control mechanism and to regulate the fare
without fleecing general public.
